One of the many things that we take pride in here at the Manila Polo Club is our impressive roster of career-driven Members. For those who didn’t know, former GSIS President Dir. Bernie Vergara is actually the perfect example of a well-rounded career man.
Being a Management Engineering graduate of the Ateneo de Manila University, math wizard and economics enthusiast, Bernie Vergara just knew he wanted to pursue a career in the big leagues. He started out his career as a Management Trainee at Citibank, then scored a job at Lehman Brothers in New York City. It was there that he gained further knowledge and the right experience to finish up Business School and eventually land jobs in hedge funds and trading desks in various parts of the globe – and to think that was just the beginning of his career. Enter the era of President Noynoy Aquino – Vergara was appointed President of the GSIS and wholeheartedly served his motherland, even if it meant leaving the corporate life that he loved abroad and coming back home to the Philippines after 26 years.
