7 December 2021

We are excited to introduce you to the new members of the MPC team. Say hello to King, Mich, Ems, Beejay and Daniece!

A graduate of BS Accountancy at Technological Institute of the Philippines in Quezon City, King is a certified public accountant and is the Club’s newest Credit and Collections Manager.

What do you know about MPC, and why do you want to work here?
MPC is one of the prestigious clubs in the Philippines and I consider working here as a privilege that’s why I am very grateful that I was hired here.

Which aspect of the job are you excited about?
As the new Credit and Collections Manager, I get the chance to talk to the Members regarding their concerns on their billing statements, as well as build good relationships with them.

King Carandang, Credit and Collections Manager

What has surprised you about the job in the first 15 days?
There are a lot of concerns, but whenever we manage to fix them, it’s very satisfying.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I love playing chess, any board game actually. I love watching Netflix. I just want to stay at home even after the pandemic ends.

What types of music or movies do you enjoy?
I love mind-blowing movies like Fight Club. I love listening to bands like Incubus, Panic! At the Disco, mostly emo bands, as well as OPM songs.

Michelle Samson, Assistant Human Resource Manager

Mich has been an HR practitioner for 26 years in various industries such as retail, financial services, restaurant & food manufacturing. She joins the team as the newest Assistant Human Resource Manager.

What do you know about MPC, and why do you want to work here?
I know MPC as an elite and premier sports club. I saw the job posting on Jobstreet sometime in April. What made me apply was the position title, the retirement policy and the lower volume of employee headcount. In the past companies I worked for, there is always high number of employees, as high as 13k in headcount, but there’s no long-term benefit such as a retirement policy. These are the things I’ve been looking for: good benefits that include my family, a lower manpower headcount, and to be an HR Manager.

Which aspect of the job are you excited about?
I’m excited to be back to the whole function of HR. For more than 7 years, I’ve dedicated myself to becoming a payroll practitioner and a team leader. I realized that I want to go back to the HR Practice and serve my internal clients with a difference. Also, I’ve been in Retail, Manufacturing, Food and Financial Services, and it’s my first time to be part of a different industry, Sports Membership.

What has surprised you about the job in the first 15 days?
The daily operations meeting, and I was really surprised that most of the employees are tenured employees. I also noticed the fast-paced work here in the Club, and the kind of leadership we have.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
Watching TV series with the family, catching up with my kids and my dog, aside from doing household chores. On weekends, I get longer bed time to recharge, and I also find time to go for walks, bike rides and going out with my kids.

What types of music or movies do you enjoy?
For music, I prefer worship songs in the morning. While working, I listen to old love songs, which remind me of my younger years. When I need to de-stress, I go back to worship songs. I don’t have any particular type of movies. I like feel good local movies like the movies of Sarah Geronimo, John Lloyd and Bea Alonzo. Also, since I have kids, watching Marvel and Disney movies is a must.

Emma or Ems is a graduate of AB Mass Communications in Journalism and Media Production in Assumption and has more than 20 years of experience in the educational and commercial sectors. She joins the Club as the newest Assistant to the Controller.

What do you know about MPC, and why do you want to work here?
Since my earlier years, I have attended wedding receptions, dinner events, and other activities at MPC, thus, the place is familiar to me. It is a Sporting Club and is a good venue for events and gatherings.

The surroundings have really caught my eye. I like the pristine natural scenery, creating an ambiance of tranquility and relaxation. I value the long-term goals the Club tries to achieve with its various activities. Hopefully I will get a chance to help with achieving these worthy goals. The open space offices, venues for the Members, and the activities that are organized sound really interesting. It seems like a great place to work and grow professionally. At least I would say that, according to the information I have read about the Club.

Emma Patricia Entao, Assistant to the Controller

I am new in the field of Finance. I will be freshly learning every detail. I am looking forward to the opportunity to learn new experiences, and it is my pleasure to work in a new workplace. Learning new things from my co-workers would be a great impact on knowing how to handle the job. This opportunity could help me to allow others and myself to understand and comprehend information more accurately and quickly. I think re-starting in a place like MPC during this uncertain time will provide more time for discipline, growth, learning, and transformation of one’s self to be further enhanced professionally and personally.

Which aspect of the job are you excited about?
The wonderful team and each one of them has a unique quality, and most importantly, we work with dedication, ideals and ethics. It is also when people expect suggestion on things, it makes one feel that he/she is being helpful and of service.

What has surprised you about the job in the first 15 days?
There is none that I can think of at this moment. When I applied for the position, I was already preparing myself psychologically, emotionally and mentally. The department where I am a part of now is different from my previous work experiences, i.e., when it comes to the subject of thought or focus of attention, though the nature of the work is quite similar.

I always keep in mind that in high-pressure situations, to stay calm, focused, seek out the root cause of the problem and focus on finding the right solution immediately. Mistakes are inevitable and there is no time for blame. Once the problem is settled, then I can revisit the situation and determine how to keep it from happening again.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I read books and magazines as I feel it is important to be aware and to not stop learning. I spend time listening to songs from different artists. Music gives me positive energy to work better and to relax. When I am alone, I practice meditation and reflection to keep me grounded and to maintain my calm and balance. I enjoy spending my spare time lying on the couch, watching some videos and documentaries. I also give talks to members of church organizations and do voice-over work. I am still very much involved and active in church activities. Community and church services help me realize the core values of passion, hard work, humility and commitment. When I feel that my actions help bring about the good of others and result in soothing even a little of their sadness or suffering, I become conscious of the true sense of achievement and its realization. This is the highest involvement which leads to the greatest achievement followed by happiness, satisfaction and peace. With this essence of being, I find myself knowing what and who I really am.

What types of music or movies do you enjoy?
The genres of music that I enjoy listening to are mellow & smooth jazz, soothing relaxing music, nature sounds, oldies / vintage, light classical, contemporary mellow, Christmas, swing/disco, Gregorian chants, and ambient music.

Beejay Mendoza, Data Analyst

Beejay started out as an intern at the Club’s MIS Department, when he was a graduating student from the University of Makati, taking IT Service Management. After graduation, he continued on as a casual employee, eventually becoming the Club’s newest Data Analyst.

What do you know about MPC, and why do you want to work here?
I was lucky enough to be included in their on-the-job training program, and by that time, I already knew that MPC is an exclusive membership recreational facility for high-profile individuals. An opportunity also came when they absorbed me as a casual employee. Thanks to my supervisor and my department manager that have given me the privilege to work, I learned a lot and at the same time, enhanced my raw skills.

Which aspect of the job are you excited about?
Who would think that I will be a part of the MPC family? It’s a huge leap for me and I am very thankful that they have given me another chance to use my new set of skills in helping the Club by any means possible. Colleagues, co-workers and the management make things enjoyable and fun inside the Club despite the pandemic.

What has surprised you about the job in the first 15 days?
The first 15 days are not as confusing as my days as a trainee, so there is nothing much to be surprised about.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
There is nothing much to do because of the pandemic. When I am not working, I sometimes just play online games or board games with my family.

What types of music or movies do you enjoy?
I always enjoy listening to alternative music, 70’s and 80’s hits from my father’s disc. I have always been hooked to anime, sci-fi and the slice of life type of movies.

A graduate of BS Accountancy from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Daniece joins the Club as the new Senior Accountant, assisting the Chief Accountant in handling and overseeing the VAT and withholding taxes, as well as updating the Club’s general ledger accounts. She has four years of experience, having worked for a multinational company providing shared services, both technological and engineering.

What do you know about MPC, and why do you want to work here?
I saw the company on the job site. It got a good rating, and the position is what I’m looking for. I searched for it and I got curious, so I read everything on the Web about it and watched videos so I can have an idea of the place. I applied because I loved the place and its history, and the position is an opportunity for me to grow. It’s a new industry for me which will broaden my skills.

Which aspect of the job are you excited about?
It’s the opportunity to use my skills and improve it by being in a different environment, meeting new people and having new responsibilities.

What has surprised you about the job in the first 15 days?
It is a very different working environment from my previous work which is good because I can see that I can improve my work-life balance and since it is a different industry, I am learning new things (accounting/tax-wise). Also, everybody knows each other and works like a very close group of people which is really nice.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I love spending time with my family such as watching movies and sports, walking every weekend in different neighborhoods in our town and trying different home-cooked meals. On my own, I like painting and learning to play instrument.

What types of music or movies do you enjoy?
I like comedy and romance for shows and movies. As for music, I like pop.
