Dennis Valdes

What was the year you first started swimming in the Club’s 50-m pool?
My first swims in the 50m pool were in 2009, when I started training for a triathlon in CamSur.

What is your fondest memory in it?
Around the same time, the 50m pool was used for underwater hockey in the evenings, and we would play from 8-10 PM twice a week. Those were always fun evenings.

What is your favorite time of the day to go swimming?
Nothing beats a night swim in the pool. It is a great way to get rid of all the day’s stress.

What is your fondest memory in it?
Aside from diving off the high dive which must be every kids delight, are the many age group competitions we’ve had at the club– the Cogons filled with swimmers, swimmers from the HK mantas too!

What is your favorite time of the day to go swimming?
Late afternoon.

After retiring from competitive swimming, Akiko has taken on new endeavors — one of which is running Akiko Thomson Swim School

What was the year you first started swimming in the Club’s 50-m pool?
Young enough that I can’t really remember! But from my youth, the 25m pool stands out as where I spent my time. My routine of swimming weekly in the 50m pool started when I came back to live in the Philippines as an adult in 2012.

What is your fondest memory in it?
My fondest memory of the pool will always be swimming with my infant son there before he could walk.

What is your favorite time of the day to go swimming?
My favorite time to swim is at dusk.
