In celebration of Earth Month, the Sustainability Committee led a tree planting activity on 20 April 2024 alongside the jogging track.
Sustainability Committee Member Ms. Maria Isabel “Mabel” Morales-Mañalac, former Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, and Club Member Ms. Anne Gonzales were present, along with representatives of JSA, Ms. Rose Palou and Ms. Marien Ignacio, and MPC employees. They planted 30 Bignay Seedlings which are known to attract birds and play a significant role in supporting the ecosystem.
Bignay (Antidesma bunius) trees are native to the Philippines where it is widely distributed. They produce tart red berries which birds love! Additionally, these berries are used locally to make wine, jam, desserts, drinks, and have medicinal qualities.
Overall, the tree planting activity was a success. It was a positive step towards making the Club more sustainable while reducing its carbon footprint and contributing to a greener planet.
